We had our 1 month apt today, he's doing great! He is 22.5 inches long (98th percentile), 10 lbs 6.5 oz (70-something percentile) and I don't remember his head circ but it was around 25 percentile. The pedi said he's doing great. He plants his feet when you hold him up, is doing well trying to hold his head up, smiles at us occasionally and even sticks his tongue out at us if we do it to him!

My water broke at midnight, I woke up around 3:30 with contractions but I slept on and off until 5ish and got up. I called Amy (midwife on call at the birth center) at 6 and she told me to meet her there at 8:30, so I rested, showered, packed everything up and we headed out. At that point I was having contractions but was still quite cheerful and happy that we were having a baby that day!

We got to the birth center and Amy checked me, I was 2cm dialated so she sent me to go walk and eat breakfast and come back at noon. My contractions made me want to sqeeze something in my hand, so we went on a quest to find a squishy stress ball! We walked at Target and Collin Creek mall. I got some squishy balls at Target that I carried around and squeezed whenever I'd have a contraction. I was wearing jammy pants and a big t-shirt, and carrying those squishy balls, I'm sure I looked lovely!

After we walked until I was tired, we went over to IHOP for breakfast. I was feeling nausious and having contractions that were 30-45 seconds long and they were coming every 2 or so minutes (mine NEVER were 5 minutes apart, mine were short and close together.) I choked down one half of a piece of wheat toast and a few sips of apple juice... while I was sitting at the booth at IHOP my contractions got a lot longer, like 1 min 20 seconds! After Andrew finished and paid, I ran to the bathroom and threw up. Oops!

We still had 30 more minutes until we had to be back to the birth center so we went back to Target and just walked laps in there, my contractions went back to 45 seconds long, about 1-1.5 minutes apart.

We went to the birth center and I was dialated to a 3, Amy knew that we hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the night before so sent us upstairs to the birthing suite to rest! I was happy!!! I was actually able to sleep on and off. I tried really hard to just relax and ignore the contractions when they came. We got some rest and after about 45 mins, Amy came back and told me to do some more walking around the birth center. I walked for an hour, the contractions were hard! Andrew really helped me out my distracting me during a contraction, I found that rubbing my back or percussion on my back would help. I walked all around the suite, I didn't feel like walking around the whole birth center. I tried lots of different positions during contractions, I held on to the poster on the 4 poster bed, squatted holding the poster, sat on the birth ball, hugged Andrew, etc. I also threw up again. I couldn't keep any food/liquids down.

This part of the labor was hard, it really may have been the hardest I think, because the contractions hurt and I knew I was only at a 3 and that they'd only get worse. I tried to stay positive and focus on the good the contractions were doing, but in the back of my mind the big scary word "TRANSITION" was still lurking.

After an hour, Amy came back and checked me. I was dialated to 4 and she told me I could get in the shower. I did! It was fabulous. I didn't want to leave. Literally. I did NOT want to get out. After about 45 minutes Amy came back in to check on me but Andrew told her I didn't want to get out. She said I could stay in as long as I wanted! I was in there for probably 1.5 hours! I have no idea. At this point I was totally in my own little world. I don't want to say I lost conciousness in there, but I wasn't all there, in a good way. I was in the zone!

After a long time, Andrew came in and encouraged me to get out of the shower. I couldn't stay in there forever even though I wanted to! I dried off and Amy and Becky came in to see how the baby was doing. I was half way to lala land and I didn't even RECONGNIZE Becky! I saw Amy and another lady and assumed the other lady was a birth assistant. It wasn't until after they had checked my blood pressure and listened to the baby that Becky started talking to me and I realized it was her and not a stranger! They didn't check me at this point because they didn't want to check TOO much as my water was broken.

My contractions were awful on the bed, so Becky helped me get up. I went to use the restroom and found that sitting on the toilet was actually quite comfy! I asked if I could stay there and they said sure! So I hung out on the toilet... soon with the contractions I was having an urge to push. I was really off in lala land at this point and the longer I sat there the stronger the urge to push came. I felt guilty about it because the pushing felt good, but I thought it was probably too early to push. I didn't want to hurt myself or the baby by pushing too soon, but at the same time the urge to do it and the relief it brought were hard to resist. I told Amy and she said good and that it was okay I was feeling like that. Becky came in and checked me and I was at 6cm. She told me to breathe through the urges to push and that I wasn't dialated enough to push yet. She tried to get me to get on the bed on all 4's to relieve the urge to push. I told her I didn't want to move! They began filling the birthing tub for a water birth, calling the birth assistant in and preparing everything, so that was exciting to see that they thought the end was near!

I labored for a while like this, it was hard because my body was telling me to push but my mind was trying to fight it and relax through the urges. At this point I was out of my own body, breathing heavily/moaning and everything. Despite trying to fight the urges to push, I couldn't help it. After a few minutes something felt different, I swear his head was coming! I went through three contractions of feeling like his head was coming before I yelled, "BECKY! I think I feel his head!" She hurried in and checked me and sure enough, I did! He was crowning!!!

It went pretty quickly from there. Becky and Amy stopped filling the tub and went straight into baby delivery mode. (Normally you only get one midwife when you deliver at this birth center, but they switch shifts at 5 so I timed it just right so I got two!) I kept pushing until part of his head out. To me it felt like surely this must be the entire head, they told me to reach down and feel it and it was just this tiny bit, I had more to go! I tried to push really slowly so I wouldn't tear. It burned, especially in the front. The head was the hardest part, I was holding on to Andrew's hand/arm and pushing against him. Once his head cleared they checked his neck for the cord and wiped his nose/mouth. I stood up and with a few more pushes his body slid out and I had my baby! They put him right up on my chest and cleaned him off. It was totally surreal. Oh, and then he peed on me!

We waited for the cord to stop pulsing and then Andrew cut it, then they took me over to the bed to deliver the placenta. That was a peice of cake! Andrew held Jack and they got his weight/measurements, etc. Then we all just hung out, snuggled, etc. while the midwives checked our stats and did paperwork. It was awesome! Jack screamed bloody murder for the first hour or so, he was showing off his lung power! He eventually calmed down and we tried our hand at nursing and just got to know him. We stayed at the birth center until 10:30 or so, then headed home!

He was born at 5:30 on the dot, weighed in at 7lbs 14oz, measured 19.5 inches and his apgar was 9 both times. I amazed the midwives because I went from 6cm dialated to delivering the baby in 30 minutes!!! They said that's really rare even for a mom that's had multiple other kids!

We slept pretty well last night, we're both working on learning how to nurse. He had his first poopy diaper this afternoon. We're in love! He's amazing and cute and he smells like a brand new baby!

I'm proud of myself for doing it naturally! It was hard and I am a bit sore, but I didn't tear and overall I feel great!!!

Baby Jack is here!

He was born on Monday August 27 at 5:30 pm. He weighed in at 7lbs 14oz and was 19.5 inches long. We had an all natural birth and we're all home and doing well!

I'll post pics and a birth story later.

Not much to update about, but I'm bored so I thought I'd give it a go. I am nearly 38 weeks pregnant (out of 40) and I'm feeling good! I'm a little more tired and sore than usual, especially my lower back, but overall I'm doing really well. I still haven't had any swelling issues, major discomfort, contractions, etc. I'm a happy camper. The baby could come "any day now" but most likely he won't come for a couple more weeks.

We have nearly everything ready, we have food cooked and frozen for easy eating after he's born, we have the bag packed to go to the birth center, we have midwives' phone numbers on the fridge, his nursery is set up, we have clothes, sheets, blankets, towels washed and ready. We have tons of cloth diapers ready to go. Our last project this weekend is to clean the house! I want to give it a good scrub, tob to bottom. I really wish we could just pay someone to come in and do it for us, it's going to be hard for me to get down and clean. Bending over and getting up have gotten quite difficult lately!

I am also in desperate need of a pedicure. :)

Anyway, we'll send everyone an email from the birth center as soon as he's born. We both have Blackberries so we can send email from wherever we are.

If you notice that we're a bit hard to get ahold of lately, it's because we're trying to enjoy this last bit of time we have as a couple before the baby comes, and we're looking forward to spending some one-on-one time with Jack as a family of three when he arrives.

Ha I haven't updated this thing in a while. Everything is still just fine here. I'm 35 weeks pregnant. I'm considered full term at 36 weeks, which means I'm safe to have the baby starting on August 1st. He probably won't come until closer to September though. We've spent the last few weekends getting ready. We made a list of things to do and have slowly been checking things off. We have carseat bases installed in our cars, strollers assembled, etc.

My awesome friends threw me an awesome suprise baby shower a few weekends ago. It was super sweet of them. I'd never had a suprise party before! I also had a shower last weekend that was thrown by my friends with the Great Dane rescue. They were both lots of fun!

I have a baby belly now! I left my camera at my friend's house, or else I'd take and post a belly pic. I need to get that back soon! Although I have a belly, I think I'm still carrying quite small. Everyone is suprised to hear that I'm 8 months pregnant!

I had some maternity photos taken a few weeks ago. Here is the link to them (fair warning: some of them have some side-boob in them, but no nipples!)
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AZM2rZk1cNmLjY

My back has stil been bothering me on and off and I'm DYING for a pedicure, but all in all I'm feeling great. No swelling, heartburn, etc. I went to my midwife yesterday because I had gotten a migrane the last few days, they said I'm still looking good and it was probably dehydration. The baby's heartbeat sounded good, she couldn't resist taking a listen since I Was there :)

I start seeing the midwives every week starting next week and going until I have him! I think we're nearly ready. We're excited to meet him!

I don't have a whole bunch to update on, but I thought I'd give it a go.

We got a glider for the nursery, so that's all set!

We took a natural childbirth class last weekend, it was very informative and we liked it a lot. It really taught us a lot.

This weekend I got a bunch of thank-you notes done, I am proud of myself!

I have maternity photos coming up at the end of the month, exciting!

I am 30 weeks pregnant, I'll be 31 weeks on Tuesday. That's about 10 weeks left to go (plus or minus about two weeks).

I can't believe it's almost July!

I have a big enough belly that multiple strangers ask me about the baby every day. :)

I am looking for a legit work-at-home job I can do for some extra $ when the baby comes. I just applied to a copywriting job my mom sent to me, it sounds promising and I'm very qualified. We'll see if that turns in to anything.

Andrew should be up for a big, fat promotion early next year, which is very exciting!

Um... we still have to baby-proof the house, wash all the baby stuff, get the carseats installed, and small stuff like that. It seems too early to wash clothes and get carseats installed. Maybe we'll start babyproofing tomorrow or next weekend.

This baby already has some fabulous grandparents (on both sides!) they've been super generous to us. It's wonderful they're so excited for him! We are too.

(thanks mom and dad!!!!!!)

*Also, big huge hugs to my friend who is really hurting right now.*

I am so excited/happy/flattered!

I found out recently that I am getting two baby showers. I am touched at the friends who are taking the time to throw a shower to celebrate and honor this baby, and can't wait to see everyone. I think they'll be fun!

It has spurred me to play more with my registry. We have a Babies R Us registry but I also stole Wendi's idea ([info]wendimarie) and made one at www.thethingsiwant.com (edited to say, I just accidentally deleted the whole thing and I'm FRUSTERATED at myself! I started a new registry on www.breesbums.com for my crunchy stuff. Check it out!)

This is the last week of my second trimester! So I'm just about 6 months pregnant. Our nursery furniture should be arriving soon. We're still working on the mural for the nursery, it's coming along really well!

I should get to bed now though. I took a belly pic last night, I'll upload it tomorrow.

Ps- Today I had a few minutes to kill while I was waiting for someone so I went in to a bakery/coffee shop and the girl at the counter told me I wasn't allowed to buy any coffee there because I am pregnant. I hadn't been planning on it, but I left anyway. Who the heck is she to tell me what I can and cannot have?!

I haven't updated in a while! Oops!!

Everything is going just fine here. The worst of my complaints is back pain, which has been persistant ever since the beginning of this pregnancy. It hurts every day in the same place. I had a massage the other day and it was heavenly! Besides that, I'm feeling fine and dandy!

We're slowly getting everything ready, we registered a few weeks ago and two weekends ago Andrew painted the nursery. It's blue, bright blue, like painter's tape blue. :) We're also painting a mural on one wall, it's not done yet but I'll post a photo when we finish.

Our nursery furniture should be here some time next month, which is exciting. I'm getting bigger, I have a belly now, although it's still a small one. I got a pair of maternity jeans a few weeks ago that rock my world (thanks Grandma Elsie, who "sponsored" them :D)

Last weekend we went to visit Gayle and Niraj in Austin, and we had mother's day brunch with my grandma and grandpa. It was fun! I got a Coach purse to match my diaper bag, ya know, to replace the one that got stolen a few weeks ago.

Andrew has been out of town all week for work, but should have just landed back in town right about now. We're going out to dinner and a movie with some friends.

Andrew's birthday is this Sunday! We'll go a nice dinner, I'm not sure where, his call!

Um, I think that's about it!

I can't stop shopping for baby stuff, it's ADDICTING! Yesterday at lunch I saw a woman with this car seat cover: http://www.babybellamaya.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=7&products_id=23

It might look slightly hideous on the computer screen, but in real life it was LOVELY! So I asked her where she got it, she told me www.babybellamaya.com so I had to check it out. They're all super cute! I dunno if I like the green, teal or red the best! I like the teal, but it looks like it's lined with chocolate brown. Chocolate brown is very *IN* right now, much to my dismay. It's not one of my favorite colors, but it seems like it's everywhere!

I have another midwife appointment in a couple weeks, I have to take the gestational diabetes test, which means I get to drink that super sweet flat orange soda stuff. Hopefully I'll pass though, I'm not too concerned.

Ok, I'm hungry and I've got to go run some errands...

First off, baby and I are just fine!

I was mailing a package for a client yesterday and I was wearing heels (only two inches high, nothing insane). Anyway, with the rain, I managed to slip and take a hard fall on the concrete floor. I was holding the package and couldn't catch myself on anything, so I hit the ground hard. I fell on my left hip/thigh. I called Jeanean (midwife) to see what I should look out for and they told me I needed to go to L&D.

I had dinner plans that night, so I called one of the girls I was supposed to go with and told her I wouldn't be making it. She lives right near me, so she offered to drive me to the hospital. I really appreciated her company!

At the hospital, we got put in a room and the nurse came in to ask some questions. An hour later, another nurse came in and asked us the same questions, and told us the doppler was lost and they were trying to find it. An hour later, a different nurse came in pushing a bed into our room for storage. She exclaimed "OMG there is a patient in here!!!" and asked me what I was waiting for. I told her I'd been waiting two hours for a doppler and I had just been about to check myself out and go home. She was horrified that I'd been waiting so long and immediately walked out and came back in with a doppler! She was my nurse in shining scrubs!!! She listened to the baby's heartbeat for a while, was super sweet and funny and told me what to look out for. We were out within 5 minutes. I was STARVING and I bought my friend dinner to thank her for staying with me, who knew it'd take two hours just for that?!

I took it easy today and my back/hip is a bit sore, but the baby is moving around like normal so everything seems fine. I asked that nurses's name and told her I want her at my delivery!!!!
